At Die Skatkis, every pre-loved item has a story—and we’re here to help it find a new home. Our journey began in 2018 when the founder launched George Pawnshop after more than a decade in the secondhand industry, including running a franchise in Gauteng and buying and selling since his varsity days.

After a deal to buy an existing shop fell through, the founder started from scratch in George—with stock from his own garage and a logo inspired by the classic John Player Special design. George Pawnshop (GPS) grew quickly, sourcing quality goods from walk-ins, house visits, and referrals—powered by strong word of mouth.

We later opened a branch in Mossel Bay, which ran for four years before we rebranded to Die Skatkis—a name that better reflects our mission to help people discover hidden treasures without the stigma often tied to “pawnshop.”

In 2025, we moved into a larger 500m² store at 8 Trein Street, George, and launched our online shop to reach customers nationwide. Our Facebook page remains active, and we now deliver free in George while shipping across South Africa.

From tools and electronics to quirky appliances and household items, we believe every item deserves a second chance. If there’s something you think you can’t find—there’s a good chance we have it.
